Etomidate has the chemical formula C14H16N2O2. It is a short-acting, non-barbiturate intravenous injection with good sedative but not analgesic properties. Anaesthesia occurs in the 20s after intravenous injection and lasts about 5 minutes. The duration of action can be prolonged by increasing the dose. The effect on the respiratory and circulatory systems is mild, there is a brief respiratory depression, systolic blood pressure is slightly decreased, heart rate is slightly increased, no histamine release effect. Etomidate is a white crystalline powder. It acts mainly on the sensory centre of the upper spinal cord and cerebral cortex, inhibiting the transmission of sensory stimuli to the brain. Etomidate is rapidly metabolised to etomidate acid in the liver. The

ETO Rapid Test (Oral Fluid) is a rapid screening test that can be performed without the use of an instrument. The test uses the antibody to selectively detect elevated levels of etomidate in the specimen. The ETO Rapid Oral Fluid Test is positive if etomidate exceeds the cut-off level
